An interlocking driveway in Toronto costs $15 to $30 per square foot installed in 2026, which puts a typical two-car driveway (roughly 600 to 750 square feet) between $12,000 and $25,000. Here is what actually decides where your project lands in that range, and where the cheap quotes cut the corners you’ll pay for later.
| Driveway | Typical size | 2026 installed range |
|---|---|---|
| Single car | 300–400 sq ft | $6,000 – $11,000 |
| Two car | 600–750 sq ft | $12,000 – $25,000 |
| Wide / circular | 900+ sq ft | $20,000 – $40,000+ |
These assume full excavation and a new base. “Overlay” quotes that skip the base run far less, and fail by the second winter, which is why we won’t sell them.
The paver line. Entry-level pavers and premium large-format slabs can differ by $5+ per square foot in material alone. The install labour is similar; the look is not.
Base depth and soil. Vehicle-rated bases need 10 to 12 inches of compacted granular. On the clay common east of the DVP, add geotextile separation. This is the least visible and most important money in the whole project.
Access and disposal. A driveway machine can reach directly costs less to excavate than one needing hand work or a conveyor. Bin placement on a permit street adds city fees.
Steps, walls, and borders. Most driveway projects grow a walkway or front steps once the homeowner sees the design. Bundling them into one mobilization is genuinely cheaper than phasing, it’s the one upsell that saves money.
Simple rectangular layouts, standard-format pavers, easy machine access, and booking outside the spring rush. Shoulder-season installs (late summer through fall) often price better and the base compacts just as well.
When a quote comes in 30% under everyone else, it’s usually one of these: base depth under 8 inches, no compaction in lifts, no geotextile on clay, sand instead of high-performance bedding, no edge restraint on open edges, or regular sand in the joints instead of polymeric. Ask each one directly. A good installer answers in writing.
